In case you missed it, Onew (온유), the leader of SHINee (샤이니), was supposed to have his first solo fan meeting tour in Malaysia, specifically in Kuala Lumpur. Originally, it was planned for July at Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam, but due to some technical hiccups, they shifted it to the Plenary Hall at the KL Convention Centre.
However, fans were left heartbroken when the organisers, MND Sports & Event Sdn. Bhd, announced the cancellation of the fan meeting due to unforeseen circumstances. They informed those who bought tickets that refunds would start being processed from August 1, 2024. But it seems many fans are still waiting for their money to show up!
After months of questions about the refunds, a netizen took to Twitter to call out MND, suggesting they could easily fund the refunds instead of hosting a private event. In response, the company slid into their DMs, demanding the pesky user remove the tweet and offer a public apology for its “defamatory nature.”
The fan agreed to apologize but asked for clarity on the delayed refunds. Instead of providing an explanation, MND insisted, “Your apology is conditional, which is not what we wanted. Please delete your second post and apologize unconditionally.” Unsatisfied with this response, the fan shared the exchange publicly, which set off a social media storm among SHINee fans globally who’ve been anxiously waiting for their refunds since the cancellation.
Many fans criticized the unprofessionalism of MND’s responses. Some were shocked that their Twitter account was still active since their last post was back in July. Meanwhile, warnings spread about purchasing tickets for the upcoming Nidji concert next year, also organized by MND. Fans are even reaching out to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN) for an investigation.
There are also rumors that the company has been deleting comments on Instagram asking for updates on refunds. As of now, MND has not responded to the backlash. Here’s hoping they resolve this mess before it blows up even more!
